Jane Graverol: Solo exhibition
Past exhibition
Overview
The first solo exhibition dedicated on Jane Graverol's artwork in the last year.
Jane Graverol (1905-1984) is one of the few female artists of the Belgian surrealist movement. Contemporary of Magritte and Mariën, she was an active painter and participated in the publication of several historically important surrealist periodicals.
Her painting is fully in line with the surrealist practice, through her associations of images, her poetics as well as the use of the title, sometimes enigmatic, sometimes metaphorical but always constitutive of the work. Beyond her surrealist practice, Jane Graverol has also managed to constitute a work imprinted with her personality with the recurring use of elements that are specific to her: the presence of animals, the plant-covered bodies, the representation of micro-organisms, the woman.
